in the white room...

...with black curtains near the station...

Anyways, when TJ and I eloped (people knew we were getting hitched, but it was just us at the courthouse so basically... we eloped) my granny sent us a nice fat check. It was better than any gift we could've got really (other than the crib she later bought us) because we were able to go to Ikea and completely furnish our apartment.

When we got to the bedroom furniture, it was time to decide, how did we want our bedroom set up? What kind of mood, vibe etc did we want? My lover told me he wanted the room to be welcoming and inviting. I agreed, I think the bedroom should be a retreat. So he said that he wanted the whole room to be white. Warm, welcoming, inviting... white?
At first I thought I'd just ignore that and pick out whatever I liked, but I compromised and all of our bedding is white, with a bunch of different textures. And I love it! So, the reason you read this long rambling is because I've been thinking about our upcoming move a lot, and re-decorating another house. But keeping the white bedroom and I've been collecting inspiration. And there's lots of it out there.

Also, question: Did your significant other help with the decorating? Or did they tell you to pick out whatever you like? Or did they want to do it all, and you sat back and let them? Just curious...

This isn't a bedroom, but I want a closet that looks like this. A girl can dream right?

I love white bedding! It looks so clean and cozy. I just redid the ugly dressers I grew up with and I love them! I actually painted them white. They were a honey color and I painted them white sanded the edges and stained them a dark walnut color and then put a smoke glaze over the entire thing to give them a real vintage look. I really like how they turned out. I think white is very inviting but you have to throw some warm colors in there as well to give it that coziness! I am in the process of "making over" our room and I will post pictures soon. I just need to hang the rest of the stuff up on the walls. But this time around I bought white bedding, well I guess its not white, its an off-white, called vanilla but it has turned out really cute. I love that I've been able to use the same furniture i had growing up and now i love it! by the way...come visit me before tj gets back. mark is at work all day. you and kemper should come out here to st.louis and stay for a week or so. we could have a great time! i'm serious.

oh yeah, sorry this is so scattered, but about marks opinion, he used to like to give his opinion and help me pick out all the decor in the house but now he just lets me do my thing, but likes to have a say when it comes to big purchases, like our entertainment center and things like that. other than that he's really good about letting me do my thing...it didn't used to be that way though now i think he's too busy with work and i'm the one in the house all day so he just lets me do it!

seriously though, come visit!

It just screams summer. I don't know why, but it does. White feels so cozy, too. The retro couch looks cool but too short for me to lie down on it. BIG open windows are the best!!

True, Monique. With White you need a lot of light to make it look inviting. I really like the black frames in the first pic with all the white and I love the rustic lettering of the last name above the bed. Somehow we always end up placing our bed under a window so I can never do anything fancy above the headboard.

Adam loves helping me with decor. We went with the classic dark. Lots of dark browns and chocolate browns with cream to accent. Haven't decided on wall color yet though. I think that's mostly because we got tired of painting. Adam got a fabulous headboard overseas for cheap. Real leather and handcrafted wood. I love it. LOVE it. So much better than roomstore.

Good luck decorating. I know whatever you choose will be fabulous!

I think you're a courageous woman for doing all white!! :D There's NO way I could ever keep it white. It'd eventually all become beige; guaranteed! It's those dang dogs of mine... but I LOVE how it all looks! My favorites are pic #1 (the one that's not a bedroom), #2, and #5. And Zack pretty much lets me do whatever. He'd draw the line if I got too girly on him or did something totally off the wall. But for example: He ordered that red couach for me without ever seeing it himself! Brave... :D

I LOVE the white room that's a closet--yum!

When we were first married I totally gave in and had really guy-ish decor (ugh, like a hunter green and navy PLAID bedspread) I was so grossed out by it that the first time he deployed I completely re-did (word? spelling?) our bedroom in total girl mode. So much better!

I really like your new background on here too! Come over and decorate my house for me when we move, okay?

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Amy- I can't wait to see pictures of all your stuff! And I wish that we lived closer so our families could play together all the time. I'm going to see if we can do a visit out there to you guys, I would love it! And Kemper just loves older kids, he likes to watch them haha. Maybe sometime we could do a girls weekend somewhere?

Mo- Thats what I thought about white, it always feels summerly and light, which is what I love!

Ariella- I love the rustic name too, but our bed is under a window in our current house so I'm hoping we can do it in the next one. And ever since you painted chalkboard paint in your playroom I've been obsessed with it! I'm going to do a post with just chalkboard paint :]

Christal- I never thought our whites would stay that way either, but almost two years later they're still good! And remember that pillow I just bought at pier 1? I love it! Its like sleeping with a stuffed animal haha.

Harmony- if I let TJ have his way totally, I think our house would be covered in camouflage, seriously. So I'm happy with our comprimise... also everything I've been buying since he's been gone is usually floral or has birds on it haha.
And YES! I will totally come decorate. I'm so much better at other peoples houses than mine haha.

I would love for you to come out. If you could make it work you are welcome anytime! Natalie would LOVE Kemper. She is so obsessed with babies right now. They would for sure keep him entertained for you! We live just outside St. Louis so if you can make it work that would be the airport!
